TODAY’S MESSAGE:
By the way, today’s theme talks about Istanbul been a connector of two continents.
Notwithstanding, according to Google, Istanbul is a major city in Turkey, it straddles across Europe and Asia. It was at a point in time, under Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman empires. It is noteworthy, that Istanbul was formerly referred to as Byzantium, Constanstinople now Istanbul.
Meanwhile, Istanbul is an Arabic calqued of Constanstinople, with an Arabic ending meaning ‘place of’ instead of the Greek element -polis.
Nevertheless, after the Ottoman conquest 1453, it used as the most formal official name in Ottoman Turkish, and remained in use throughout most of the time up to the fall of the Empire in 1923.
